Zelenskyy discusses alternative grain corridors with von der Leyen
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen have held a conversation about possible alternative “corridors” for Ukrainian grain exports.
The Office of the President of Ukraine emphasized that Zelenskyy and von der Leyen agreed to maintain a “constructive dialogue” on lifting restrictions on grain exports imposed by some of Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solsky said Monday that the alternative corridor, which allows cargo ships to transport Ukrainian grain and iron ore from Black Sea ports, has significantly reduced freight rates, which he said will likely continue to decline further.
“New ships are coming. Every farmer will soon be able to feel that logistics through this route should become cheaper, and accordingly, the (profitability of) grain will increase,” said Mr. Solsky.
