World chickpea production in MY 2023/24 will be reduced by 1 million tons due to a smaller crop in India
Due to a smaller crop in India, world chickpea production in 2023/24 will decline by 1.0 million tons year-on-year. Together with rising local consumption, stocks are likely to fall sharply, predicts the International Grains Council (IGS).
In the Council’s first official forecast for 2024/25, world production remains stable year-on-year at 16.8 million tons. Consumption and stocks are expected to decline due to reduced supplies. Trade volume in 2025 (January/December) is forecast at 2.4 million tons, virtually unchanged year-on-year.
