Winter crop in Ukraine will be above average

This year, the ripening of crops and, accordingly, the harvest began 2-3 weeks earlier than usual.

Taras Vysotsky, acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, said this on TV.

“We have three main winter crops – barley, wheat and rapeseed. There is also winter rye, but its area is much smaller than these crops,” he said.

According to Mr. Vysotsky, the country plans to harvest about 21 million tons of wheat, 5 million tons of barley, and 4 million tons of rapeseed.

“This is a good figure. It is higher than the average for the last decade,” he said, adding that early ripening had a slight impact on crop yields and gross harvest.

Vysotsky specified that this year’s grain harvest is expected to reach 56 million tons, and oilseeds – 21 million tons.

“The total is expected to be about 77 million tons,” he said, noting that the corn figure could still change.
