Wheat harvesting started in the USA
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), by June 2, the winter wheat crop had been harvested from 6 percent of the acreage.
The condition of winter wheat crops improved compared to the previous week. The percentage of crops in excellent to good condition rose to 49% (48% a week earlier and 36% a year ago).
At the same time, U.S. farmers are completing corn and spring wheat seeding.
By June 2, 91% of the target area had been planted to corn. Corn sowing rates are below average. On the same date last year 95% of the plan was sown, on average for the last five years – 89%.
Spring wheat was sown 94% of the planned area. The sowing rate of wheat is above average. On the same date last year 91% of the plan was sown, on average for the last five years – 90%. The condition of spring wheat crops is better than last year. The share of crops in excellent and good condition is 74% (64% a year ago).
