Wheat exports from the EU show slow pace at the start of the season

From the beginning of the current season (July 1, 2024) to July 21, the EU countries exported 1.404 mln tons of milling wheat, the European Commission reports. During the same period of the previous season, 2.210 mln tons of wheat were exported, in 2022/2023 – 2.268 mln tons.

Exports of durum wheat in the first three weeks of the current season amounted to 36.9 thsd tons, up 3.7 thsd tonnes compared to the same period last season.

The main export destinations of European milling wheat this season were: Nigeria (201.1 thsd tons), Egypt (194.0 thsd tons), Morocco (158.7 thsd tons), Saudi Arabia (152.1 thsd tons) and Angola (105.1 thsd tons).

The durum wheat was exported to Algeria (31.1 thsd tons), Morocco (5.0 thsd tons) and other countries.

According to the forecasts of the USDA, the export potential of European wheat this season will decrease to 34.5 mln tons, down 2.5 mln tonnes compared to last season. The deterioration of exports will be affected by the decrease in the harvest from 134.2 million tons to 130.0 mln tons.
