The 2023 rapeseed production was record high because of high area and better weather. Rapeseed vegetation was negative impacted by:
- bad weather in 2023 autumn,
- high temperatures and soil moisture deficit in early April 2024.
The expected in 2024 average yield is below the 5-year average of 2.62 mt/ha. Rapeseed harvesting in Romanian southern regions is almost over, but current excessive temperatures may affect quality of still not harvested rapeseed.
July UkrAgroConsult estimate of Romanian rapeseed exports in 2024/25 season was decreased, based on official downward revisions of Romanian yield and production. The estimate is sharply down compared to record Romania rapeseed exports in 2023/24 season.
UkrAgroConsult did not change Romanian sunseed exports estimate in 2024/25, despite the official downward revisions. Lower yield was compensated by higher sunflower seed area, which is maximum since 2019.
SFS area expansion is driven by high demand from local crushers and exporters.
Romanian SFS production and exports estimates are preliminary. SFS enters the critical phase of flowering when the weather in the southern and eastern parts of the country is excessively hot and soil moisture is deficient.
