US corn planting estimate increases from March, USDA says
U.S. farmers planted more acres of corn than the government forecast in March and fewer soybeans, U.S. Agriculture Department data showed on Friday.
Plantings of corn were 91.5 million acres and soy plantings were 86.1 million acres, the USDA said. Analysts expected 90.353 million acres of corn and 86.753 million acres of soybeans, according to a Reuters survey.
In March, USDA estimated farmers would plant 90.036 million acres of corn and 86.510 million acres of soybeans.
