Brussels is waiting for more information from the Poles and Hungarians.

Following Hungary and Poland’s ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, the European Commission has stated that trade policy is the exclusive competence of the EU and unilateral actions are unacceptable.

This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Ariana Podesta, PAP reports.

Podesta emphasized that the European Commission is aware of the announcement by Poland and Hungary of a ban on imports of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine.

“We ask the relevant authorities of both countries to provide additional information to be able to assess these measures,” Podesta said.

She added that “in this context, it should be emphasized that trade policy is the exclusive competence of the EU, and therefore unilateral actions by states are unacceptable.”

“In such difficult times, it is extremely important to coordinate and coordinate all decisions in the EU,” the European Commission representative added.

As a reminder, the Polish government has banned imports of agricultural products from Ukraine to protect the Polish agricultural market, despite the fact that the Ministers of Agriculture of Ukraine and Poland were scheduled to meet on Monday, April 17, to sign an agreement on further exports of Ukrainian grain. Hungary also temporarily banned imports of grains, oilseeds and some other agricultural products from Ukraine.
