UN World Food Program to open an office in Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the opening of an office of the UN World Food Program in Ukraine. This is evidenced by government order No. 604-r of June 28.
“To approve the draft Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the World Food Program (WFP) on the extension of the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the World Food Program on the opening of the WFP Office in Ukraine,” the document says.
The agreement is to be signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Italy Yaroslav Melnyk.
The World Food Program is the United Nations’ food aid arm and the largest humanitarian aid agency. The program provides food to about 90 million people a year, 58 of whom are children.
From its headquarters in Rome and from its offices in more than 80 countries, WFP helps people who are unable to provide food for themselves and their families. The assistance can be in the form of cash transfers, vouchers (certificates) and/or food.
