Ukrainian poultry exporters to explore other markets due to EU quotas

Exports of poultry meat to the EU will decline compared to 2023 as a result of government restrictions on exports of this product. It is hoped that exports to other markets will increase accordingly, and that total exports from Ukraine will not decline by the end of the year.

This was written in his column on Agrotimes by the executive director of the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine Sergiy Karpenko.

“Now exporters will gradually adjust to other markets; perhaps some will revise production plans for this year,” he said.

Meanwhile, the domestic market will not be significantly affected by this restriction if poultry exports remain at the average monthly level of 2024.

Sergiy Karpenko clarified that the quota for this year is approximately 20% less than last year’s poultry exports to the EU.

“Over the two years of trade liberalization, 7 companies have been granted the right to export to the EU, having invested millions of dollars in production facilities and intending to increase sales to the EU. Due to the quota, these plans will not come true. Predictably, exporters will operate at a lower profitability, and the country will lose foreign exchange earnings,” he said.
