In 2022, Ukrainian farmers will sow 20-30% less winter crops compared to last year. The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky said this in an interview with DW.

“At the time of the invasion of the Russian Federation, farmers had sown land and a certain supply of fertilizers and fuel. That is why we sowed as much as possible in the conditions that existed, despite problems with loans, diesel, prices, with logistics, the impossibility of selling what was grown. We must give credit to the farmers for this. But all these problems are reflected in winter crops. They sow 20-30 percent less than last year,” he said.

Solsky emphasized that the longer the war lasts, the less grain there will be in Ukraine and the more global problems with grain will worsen. According to him, last year’s grain has already been almost completely exported.

The Minister added that, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture, this year’s harvest was supposed to be 65-67 million tons of grain and oil crops.

“Due to the weather, we will slightly reduce this forecast. This is approximately what we can count on. Considering that we need one-fourth of what is collected for consumption. Therefore, there will still be a lot, a lot left for export,” said the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
