Ukraine’s sea corridor exported more products in 7 months than during the whole year of the Grain Initiative
In 7 months, 33.8 million tons of cargo were exported through the Ukrainian Sea Corridor, which is significantly more than during the year of the “grain initiative,” said O. Kubrakov, Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
The corridor was opened in August 2023, and during the first month, only a few vessels passed through, mostly those that had remained blocked in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.
To date, 1140 vessels have sailed through the Ukrainian corridor, exporting 33.8 million tons of cargo to 40 countries, including 23.1 million tons of agricultural products. Currently, 150 vessels are waiting in line to enter the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi, which will export another 5 million tons of cargo.
“We can say that we have practically reached the pre-war volumes of cargo exports from the ports of Greater Odesa and have provided an efficient logistics route without the participation of the aggressor state,” Kubrakov summarized.
According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine exported 34.593 mln tonnes of grains and pulses in 2023/24 MY (as of March 29), including 4.923 mln tonnes in March, while last year on the same date the country exported 37.382 mln tonnes of grains, including 5.085 mln tonnes in March.
In terms of crops, the following was exported:
- wheat – 13.717 mln tonnes (12.761 mln tonnes last year), including 1.945 mln tonnes in March
- barley – 1.962 (2.27) million tons, in March – 339 thousand tons
- rye – 1 (17.4) thsd tonnes, not exported in March,
- corn – 18.622 (22) million tons, in March – 2.627 million tons.
Also, as of the said date, Ukraine exported 79 thsd tonnes of flour (114.2 thsd tonnes last year), including 74.9 thsd tonnes of wheat, with 5 thsd tonnes and 4.6 thsd tonnes in March, respectively.
