Ukraine’s sanctions against Iran will affect its food security
A ban on trade with Iran (Ukraine’s imposition of sanctions against Iran for 50 years) will significantly affect its food security. The government is likely to face famine among the population.
Rafael Goroyan, the owner and chairman of the Supervisory Board of Prometheus Group, a major Ukrainian grain trader, welcomed the initiative of the President of Ukraine, the company said in a statement.
“I welcome this decision of the Ukrainian government. Today, our country is one of the main suppliers of agricultural products to the Islamic Republic of Iran. I believe that the trade ban will significantly affect Iran’s food security. The country’s government is likely to face famine among the population,” commented Mr. Goroyan.
He added that the Islamic Republic will have only one grain supplier, the Russian Federation, on which it will be completely dependent. This means that the supplier will be able to dictate prices, which will certainly hit the Iranian economy.
