Ukraine’s Parliament registered a draft law toughening requirements to some foods
The draft law No. 5148 “On amending some laws of Ukraine with regard to improving the quality of foods consumed by children” has been registered with the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament). The bill proposes to ban the use of palm oil, vegetable trans fats and ingredients grown using pesticides, in production of dairy, confectionary foods, and infant formulae.
It is permitted to use natural palm oil, but at most 2 g per 100 g of the product – this complies with the regulations applied in the European Union, UkrAgroConsult reports.
The draft law envisages the imposition of fines on unfair producers at an amount of UAH 150,000-240,000.
