Ukraine can close Syria’s access to Ukrainian grain exports through the country’s purchase of Ukrainian grain looted by the Russians.

The Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, Mykola Solsky, told about this in an interview with the Financial Times.

He emphasized that the Russian occupiers continue to steal large amounts of grain from farmers in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Although the official estimate calls the amount of 500,000 tons of grain stolen by the occupiers, the real figure may be much higher. The minister explains that farmers in the uncontrolled part of southern Ukraine have already collected several million tons of grain.

The Ukrainian government continues to monitor suspicious shipments and inform the governments of the countries to which these shipments are headed about doubts about the origin of the grain.

At the same time, Solsky says, Ukrainian wheat is also transported to Russia for processing into flour and animal feed, after which the grain cannot be traced. “Nothing is more encouraging than impunity,” he emphasized.

The minister suggested that Syria would not have access to Ukrainian grain exports after the war as punishment for receiving supplies of stolen Ukrainian grain from Russia.
