Ukraine has asked the European Commission to compensate for the costs of transporting Ukrainian agricultural products to distant European ports. This was announced by Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solsky during the telethon of the Yedyni Novyny (United News) telethon.

“This is a normal working scheme that I hope can be applied this season. Without such compensation, it would be impossible and economically unprofitable to bring Ukrainian grain to the ports of Hamburg, for example,” Solsky said.

He believes that such a mechanism will allow to increase transportation via the EU’s “solidarity routes” and solve the economic component of the issue. The decision may be made in the near future.

To recap, Croatia offered Ukraine its railroad network and ports in the Adriatic Sea for grain exports after Russia blocked the grain deal.
