Ukraine: sunflower oil refining is at its peak

The rapid growth in crude sunflower oil production in Ukraine caused a similar boom in the refined oil market development and attracted investment in this sector to reconstruct current facilities.

The 2011-2019 period witnessed a 51% increase in refined oil output, UkrAgroConsult reports. Some 28 plants produce refined sunflower oil in Ukraine, but 65% of this product is made by five companies.
Despite the increase in refining, its share in total production of sunflower oil remains at 12-13%.

The gain in production of refined sunflower oil is aimed at the export market, therefore a record roughly 665 KMT was exported in MY 2019/20.

In the new season of 2020/21, even though the original sunflower crop estimates have been cut, Ukraine’s fat-and-oil industry has all the reserves to maintain production and export of refined sunflower oil at a high level, or even to set a new record.
