Ukraine strengthens its position as a major supplier of vegetable oils to the EU
In the period from July 1 to November 2 of this year, the EU countries increased their oil imports by 3% to 2.39 million tons. Such data is contained in the report of the European Commission.
During the analyzed 4 months, the EU received 1.19 mln tonnes of palm oil (-10% yoy), 781.6 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil (+22%), 245.3 thsd tonnes of soybean oil (+40%) and 173.7 thsd tonnes of rapeseed oil (-9%).
In the reporting period, Ukraine supplied the most oils to Europe – 854.8 thsd tonnes, compared to 685.35 thsd tonnes from July 1 to November 2 last year. Significant volumes were also supplied from Indonesia, Malaysia and Guatemala – 424.6 thsd tonnes, 271.3 thsd tonnes and 167.8 thsd tonnes respectively. Another 135 thousand tons were purchased from Argentina.
It is worth noting that Poland became the key importer of sunflower and rapeseed oil since the beginning of the new agricultural season, purchasing almost 179 thsd tonnes and 43.4 thsd tonnes of the products respectively. The main volume of soybean oil was shipped to Spain – 97.3 thsd tonnes. More than 356 thsd tonnes of palm oil were delivered to Italy. At the same time, the Netherlands also received about 326.4 thsd tonnes of palm oil during the same period.
