Ukraine has begun registering merchant ships that are ready to sail through temporary corridors in the Black Sea. This was announced by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, during a telethon.

He emphasized that shipowners and ship captains had been warned about the threat from the Russian fleet and the mine danger in the Black Sea.

“Therefore, of course, all this will take place under the supervision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We are doing everything we can to ensure security. Registration is already open, the coordinator is already working,” the spokesman said.

At the same time, Pletenchuk did not disclose details about the number of vessels that have already been registered. He noted that “we cannot disclose all the details about this event yet.”

Also, Ukraine has not yet decided on the timeframe for how long the corridors in the Black Sea will be in effect.

“These terms have not yet been determined. In fact, the current state in which all this is working is also, unfortunately, due to the events that are taking place in the Black Sea, because in a normal situation, all this is much wider, easier and safer,” he explained.

According to the spokesperson, the temporary corridors should help overcome the international humanitarian crisis and enable companies to pick up ships that are in “humanitarian captivity” due to Russia’s aggression.
