Ukraine has achieved its highest grain and oilseed export figures since the start of the war, according to a report from the British Defense Ministry released on Wednesday.

The daily intelligence report highlights Ukraine’s resilience in maintaining its export capabilities through the corridor it established along the Black Sea.

It indicates that the capacity of Ukrainian Black Sea ports has likely surpassed previous levels, including those during the peak of the Black Sea Grain Initiative in October 2022. These ports exported approximately 5.2 million tons of grain and oilseeds in April alone.

Since the establishment of the Ukrainian maritime corridor in August 2023, over 1,600 ship journeys have been recorded, facilitating the export of around 45 million tons of cargo.

The majority of these exports have included agricultural products, contributing significantly to Ukraine’s economic recovery in 2024.

According to the report: “Ukrainian supplies are likely crucial for global food security, with Ukrainian grain exports expected to account for 9.7% of global grain exports from July 2023 to June 2024.

While the export of agricultural products is almost certainly dependent on the Black Sea ports, which handle 78% of the total, other routes remain in use.

Ukraine continues to export about 15% of its grain and oilseeds through the Danube, about 6% by rail, and less than 1% by road.”
