Ukraine revised its forecast for this year’s grain and oilseed harvest to 79.1 million tons
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has once again updated its forecast for gross production of grains and oilseeds. Weather factors remain favorable and allow to increase the production forecast to 79.1 mln tons. In particular, this year Ukrainian farmers can harvest about 57.5 million tons of grains and 21.6 million tons of oilseeds.
Although the total area under spring and winter grains this year was 980 thousand hectares less than last year and amounted to 10,895 thousand hectares, weather conditions contributed to almost record grain yields (up to 52.1 c/ha), which allows for a significant increase in harvest production.
According to the preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2023, farmers will be able to harvest the following volumes of grain: wheat – 21.7 mln tons, barley – 5.7 mln tons and corn – 28.5 mln tons.
Gross production of oilseeds will reach 21.6 million tons. The sunseed harvest is forecast at 13 million tons. Soybean production is expected to reach 4.6 mln tons.
As a reminder, in early spring 2023, the total gross harvest for the current year was forecast at 63.5 mln tonnes, which was 13% less than in 2022. In June, after the start of the harvest, the forecast was raised to 68 million tons, which was 7% less than in 2022. In early September, due to favorable weather conditions, there was every reason to revise the forecast upward to 76.7 million tons.
