Ukraine reaches pre-war export level

In April, Ukraine set a new record for exports of goods from Ukraine during the full-scale war – 13.1 million tons of Ukrainian goods worth $3.3 billion.

This was reported by Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko on Facebook.

“Ukraine has reached the pre-war level of exports. This is an absolute record for the entire period of full-scale war. For example, in March, exports amounted to 11.8 million tons, in January – 12 million tons. Importantly, this figure is higher than the level of pre-war February 2022. Back then, we exported 12.8 million tons,” she emphasized.

According to the official, the growth of indicators was facilitated by the opening of an alternative sea corridor, which is now used to export grain, metal and other goods. The maritime corridor also helped to partially compensate for the losses in the economy caused by the blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border.

The introduction of a mechanism for insuring ships against war risks also contributed to the growth of exports. Last year, Ukraine, together with the British government and a pool of 14 insurance companies, managed to create the UNITY mechanism for ships using the Ukrainian sea corridor. Initially, it applied only to agricultural products, but it was expanded to cover all non-military cargo.

“Of course, the expansion of the capacity of the Solidarity Lines, especially with Moldova and Romania, has also contributed to the growth. It also improved the conditions for the transportation of goods by rail to the Danube ports,” Svyrydenko emphasized.

As reported, since August 2023, the new maritime corridor has exported almost 40 million tons of cargo, including 26 million tons of grain.
