Ukraine proposes to cancel tariffs and quotas on exports before the completion of negotiations on EU membership
The People’s Deputies of Ukraine at the meeting on October 6 approved the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “On the Appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the European Parliament and the Council of the EU regarding the deepening of economic cooperation and the extension of the temporary measures on trade liberalization” (reg. No. 8075) regarding the extension of the preferential regime for Ukrainian goods. This was stated by the deputy head of the Committee on Economic Development of the VRU, Roksolana Pidlas, the information department of the parliament reported.
“According to Regulation No. 870, this year the European Union suspended all anti-dumping duties, all tariff quotas, duties for industrial products and the application of the system of minimum entry prices for fruits and vegetables for Ukrainian goods. This preferential regime will be applied until June 5, 2023,” said the People’s Deputy.
According to R. Pidlasa, the preferential regime has a positive effect on the volume of trade in Ukrainian goods in the European Union. Yes, exports to the EU for 3 quarters of the year exceeded the pre-war level by 6.3% (or $1.2 billion). Exports of corn, sunflower oil, sunflower seeds, wheat and electricity increased the most in monetary terms.
“In general, in conditions where the forecast drop in Ukraine’s GDP at the end of the year will be from 30% to 35%, we should use all possible tools to support Ukrainian manufacturers. Our joint task is to convince the Europeans to heed the proposal to extend the preferential regime,” the deputy head of the Committee emphasized.
