Ukraine. Precipitation replenished moisture supply in the soil
Weather conditions on October 1-18 were favorable for planting and development of winter grains. The entire country was dominated by dry, abnormally warm weather for this time of year.
Moisture supply. Precipitation replenished moisture supply in the soil. This improved condition of winter crops planted into dry soil and created favorable conditions for emergence and initial growth of plants, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Crop condition. Where winter grains were planted into absolutely dry soil, precipitation (less than 10 mm) will be able to moisten the soil to the seed depth and thereby provoke emergence. However, the seedlings may get killed then by further rain-free conditions and moisture shortages.
