Ukraine. Pea exports may return to the levels of previous years

117 KMT of peas were exported in the first two months of the new season, or 26% less than in the same period a year earlier. The lag in shipments most likely stems from a late start to harvesting, therefore July exports totaled just 34 KMT – the least since 2017.
As usual, the bulk of the commodity went to the traditional buyer – the EU, but its volume plummeted by 52% from last season. At the same time, demand from other importers increased (Turkey, Pakistan, African countries), UkrAgroConsult reports.
UkrAgroConsult forecasts 2021/22 pea exports may return to the 2019/20 level.
The rise in exports will become possible owing to a production increase at the expense of improved yield. The latest harvest data from the Economy Ministry indicate yields averaging 2.41 MT/ha.
Demand for Ukrainian peas will be pushed up by a pea production decline in Turkey, EU and Canada.
