Ukraine. October 2019/20 will be remembered for record high corn exports

October turned out to be a successful month for Ukrainian grain exports, in particular for those of corn – a bit more than 2.3 MMT was shipped abroad. This is an absolute record for October since Ukraine’s independence. The achievement is the more significant as October is just the second month of the season and corn harvest had not yet been complete, reports UkrAgroConsult.

As before, the main buyer of Ukrainian corn is the European Union. In October, the largest shipments went to the Netherlands and Spain. Noteworthy is that deliveries to the EU were down 2% from the same month last season.

Apart from the EU, Ukrainian corn is traditionally in demand from Egypt, Turkey, and China.

The pace of exports to Egypt was particularly rapid: deliveries in the first two months of this marketing year equaled 18.5% of the volume exported in the whole of last season.

The third biggest exporter is Turkey. According to the latest data from trade sources, 55% of the corn exported by Turkey is of Ukrainian origin.

Overall, this season’s trends include a fall in exports to the EU and stronger demand from Asia and North Africa.
