Ukraine. Low soil moisture content adversely affects tillage before planting winter crops

The weather on August 11-20 was hot and almost dry. The conditions for development of late-sown crops were fair, but not all over the country.

Plants in the southern and central regions are depressed due to moisture shortages and high air temperatures. The condition of sunflower crops is fair, or even good in case of adequate soil moisture.

Plants in the south are adversely affected by air drought and high temperatures.

No precipitation occurred in most of the country, the average amount was at most 0.9-15 mm.

Soil moisture content on the majority of areas are not enough, that adversely affects tillage before planting winter crops, UkrAgroConsult reports.

Weather forecast for August 25-30: The highest precipitation rates will be in the western and northern regions (25-35 mm and 15-20 mm, respectively). Air temperature will be 25 … 27°C in the western and northern regions, 28 … 30°C in the eastern and central ones, and up to +34°C in the south. Soil moisture in the western and northern regions will be sufficient for tillage before planting winter crops.

No precipitation is expected in the southern, eastern, central regions – this may aggravate the soil drought and delay planting of winter crops.

The weather conditions in the southern, eastern and central regions may adversely affect the development of corn and sunflower.
