Ukraine is launching the humanitarian food program Grain from Ukraine, which is expected to provide grain to at least 5 million people by the end of spring 2023.

This was reported by the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, in Telegram.

“Ukraine has decided to direct part of the harvested wheat, which was going for export, to purchase for those African countries where there are already problems of hunger. Part of the exported grain can be bought back by the states participating in the project. Ukraine will supply it to poor African countries.

International partners will be able to simultaneously support the Ukrainian economy in a difficult situation and help poor African countries,” he explains.

Thus, on the initiative of Ukraine, an international Coordination Group for the prevention of hunger is being created, and under the auspices of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program is starting to work. It will be implemented in partnership with the World Food Program.

According to Yermak, its essence consists in the direct purchase of agricultural products by the countries participating in the project from Ukrainian producers and their transfer to countries on the verge of starvation.

Together with the German government and with the support of the World Food Program, the first Nord Vind vessel left for Ethiopia. There are 27,000 tons of wheat on board the ship. This is the amount of food for almost 100,000 people per year.

The international Coordinating Group for the prevention of hunger includes representatives of the governments of countries, corporations, patrons who can directly influence the provision of food needs of millions of people in the world.
