Ukraine. Lack of precipitation may adversely affect germination and emergence of winter crops

It was warm and dry on September 21-30. Winter crops (wheat, rye, barley, rape) planted before September 18 are in good and fair condition, UkrAgroConsult reports. Crops planted on September 21-30 are emerging unevenly and slowly. Late crops matured at an accelerated rate.

Rain of various intensity occurred this past week, locally in the form of heavy showers. In most of the country, the soil contains enough effective moisture for planting, normal growth and development of  winter crops.

Weather forecast for October 6-11: Air temperature will be +17… 19°C in the west, +20 … 22°C in the northern, eastern and central regions, and +21 … 23°C in the south. Precipitation in the western regions will promote emergence of winter crops, though heavy rain may lead to waterlogging of fields.
