According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine exported 34.01 million tons of grain and leguminous crops in my 2021/22 as of January 12, which is 25% or 6.81 million tons higher than last year’s figure. The export rate corresponds to the projected increase in export volumes in the current season compared to the previous one by 25% to 56 million tons.

So, as of January 12, exports increased compared to the corresponding period of the previous season:

  • wheat – by 27.8% to 16.19 million tons (against the USDA forecast of 24.2 million tons, which is 45% higher than the level of 2020/21 MG),
  • barley – by 37% to 5.325 million tons (against the forecast of 6 million tons, which is 42% more than in my 2020/21),
  • Rye – up to 146.8 thousand tons,
  • corn-by 18% to 12.107 million tons (against the USDA forecast of 33.5 million tons, which is 45% higher than the level of 2020/21 MG).

At the same time, the export of flour decreased by 34% to 60.8 thousand tons, of which wheat – 59.8 thousand tons.

Russia in my 2021/22 as of January 13 exported (including to the countries of the customs union) 31.5 million tons of grain and oilseeds and their processed products, including 28.1 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, of which 26.9 million tons of grain, as well as 0.6 million tons of sunflower meal and 0.3 million tons of soybeans. As a month ago, the export rate is 18% lower than last year, although experts expected an increase in exports in December – January on the eve of the introduction of quotas from February 15.

Compared to the corresponding period of the previous season exports decreased:

  • wheat – by 18% to 22.7 million tons (against the USDA forecast of 35 million tons, which is 11.7% less than in my 2020/21),
  • barley – by 33% to 2.7 million tons (against the USDA forecast of 6 million tons, which is 5% less than in 2020/21 MG).

At the same time exports increased:

  • corn – by 11% to 1.4 million tons (against the USDA forecast of 4.5 million tons, which is 12.5% more than in my 2020/21),
  • peas – by 77% to 0.9 million tons,
  • wheat bran – by 25% to 0.5 million tons,
  • wheat flour – by 38% to 0.1 million tons,
  • linseed-by 31% to 0.5 million tons.

The introduction in Russia for the period February 15 – June 30, 2022 of quotas for grain exports in the range of 11 million tons, in particular wheat 8 million tons, can significantly increase grain reserves in the country at the beginning of the next season, which will lead to a decrease in domestic purchase prices.
