Ukraine increases exports of sunflower oil to the EU
Since the beginning of July, imports of Ukrainian sunflower oil to the EU countries have increased by more than 30% to almost 680 thousand tons. These data were published by the European Commission. Ukraine has strengthened its position in the list of key exporters of the product to the EU, now its share in the European market is 93% compared to 88.6% a year earlier.
The situation with sunseed is the opposite. The shipments of Ukrainian sunflower seeds to the EU in the new season dropped to 11.2 thsd tonnes (10.4% share of total supplies) from 829 thsd tonnes in 2022/23 MY (86.3% share). Moreover, the country dropped to the second place in the rating of the leading suppliers of the oilseed. Moldova took the first position with the volumes of 72.3 thsd tonnes, down from 85.5 thsd tonnes a year earlier.
Ukraine is still the leader in the EU sunflower meal market, although since the beginning of the new season, shipments to Europe have slightly decreased from 367.6 thsd tonnes to 268.5 thsd tonnes. At the same time, the influence of other countries increased: for example, Argentina increased its exports from 226.1 thousand tons to 252.1 thousand tons, and the Russian Federation from 143.39 thousand tons to 143.45 thousand tons. Moldova and Serbia also strengthened their positions – up to 53.5 thsd tonnes (16.34 thsd tonnes in 2022/23 MY) and 21.65 thsd tonnes (14.94 thsd tonnes), respectively.
