Ukraine. High Time to Modify and Update the Grain Deal. New 2023/24 Marketing Season of Wheat, Barley and Rapeseed Started

Exports of agricultural commodities in June totalled 4.85 M mt, up 9.3% from 4.44 M mt in May. The unexpected increase in exports was due to an increase in the tonnage of ships sailing through the grain corridor.

In June, the share of exports by land in total exports remained at 18%. About 190 K mt of  he commodities were delivered by trucks, which is the third lowest volume for 2022/23 season.

Exports by rail are also at the lowest levels in 2022/23. Grain delivery tariff from central Ukraine to Odesa ports is almost at the minimum level of USD 20-23 per tonne (excluding VAT). Demand for the agri cargoes delivery to the Big Odesa ports has significantly decreased, as exporters expect the termination of the grain corridor after July 17.  In the Danube ports, the queue of wagons to the port of Izmail decreased to 22 days compared to 31 days as of mid-May.

Exports by sea through the Danube ports decreased slightly to 1.9 M mt in June, being 39.3% of total monthly agri exports. Romanian officials are considering granting local farmers priority access to the services of the Constanta port. Ukraine is considering transshipment of grain from small ships and barges to larger vessels at the outer roads near the Sulina Canal in Romanian territorial waters (Danube Delta). Representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure also said that more than 12 grain transshipment terminals are currently under construction along the Ukrainian Danube coast.
