Ukraine. Heavy downpours and hail caused lodging of crops and protein loss in early grains
Variable weather prevailed on July 1-10, with high air temperatures and uneven local downpours, especially in the northern, southern and eastern regions. It was dry and hot on July 11-12. Such weather conditions were fair for yield formation in early crops and growing late crops, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Heavy downpours and hail locally caused lodging of crops and protein loss in early grains, as well as spreading of fungous diseases. At the same time, hot weather combined with fair moisture supply led to accelerated development of all late crops.
Farmers in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava and Kherson regions have begun harvesting early grains and pulses.
The greatest harvesting progress is reported in Kherson region – 20% complete with a yield of 3.34 MT/ha, and the highest average yield is seen in Poltava region (5.34 MT/ha).
On July 1-10, precipitation of various intensity in the form of heavy downpours with squalls, thunderstorms and hail occurred all over the country during 1-6 days.
