Ukraine has prospects for increasing grain exports to 5.5 million tons per month
In peacetime, Ukraine exported 6-7 million tons of grain every month. At least 45 of the already harvested 67 million tons should be exported. Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, announced this at the briefing.
“We have a potential for export. As of July 1 this year, we had extremely large balances. More than 20 million tons, which were also potential for export. Plus, there is already a new harvest. Therefore, the topic of export remains very relevant in order to export the grown grain”, he said.
According to him, 67 million tons of crops have already been harvested. Domestic consumption of grain and oilseeds is expected at the level of 20–22 million tons, therefore at least 45 million tons should be exported.
With the opening of the “grain initiative”, we see that export figures are growing quite significantly. If in July, even before the “grain agreement”, it was possible to export 3 million tons, then in August this figure reached 4.5 million tons of grain per month. Currently, there are prospects of reaching 5.4–5.5 million tons.
“We hope that there will be no force majeure. But such a figure will be reached. We are approaching the required average monthly export, which was in peacetime. In previous years, it amounted to 6 to 7 million tons per month, depending on the season and intensity If we reach at least 6 million tons, it will be a huge achievement for all participants in the process. That is why we are moving towards it,” said Vysotsky.
We will remind, according to representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, there are no threats of food shortages. The harvest of oilseed and grain crops is expected at the level of 67 million tons, which is one of the best indicators for the past years.
