Due to logistical problems that emerged after the full-scale invasion of Russia, Ukraine began to lose markets for agricultural products. Thus, according to the results of 2022/23 MY, Ukrainian exporters partially or completely lost the markets of Pakistan, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia.

“If we compare 2022/23 MY with the previous one, Morocco, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia were partially or completely lost for wheat. Now, three months of the new season have passed, and during this time the shipments have not resumed. In addition to the European market, wheat in 2023/24 season is exported to the nearer destinations such as Egypt and Turkey. The more distant markets of Lebanon and Bangladesh remained, but the export volumes decreased,” says Yelyzaveta Malyshko, the expert of UkrAgroConsult.

It is noted that before the invasion, the share of Ukrainian wheat in Egyptian imports was 25%. To date, Ukraine has lost about 3/4 of the pre-war Egyptian market.

In general, in 2022/23 MY many countries increased exports of agricultural products, including Australia and European countries. However, last season, Russia increased its shipments by almost 40%, having increased exports to Bangladesh, Algeria, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which are important for Ukraine, several times.
