Ukraine has agreed with sugar producers on the volume of exports
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine (Ukrtsukor) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
According to the document, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and Ukrtsukor will cooperate to maintain stable food security and avoid export restrictions, the Ministry said in a statement.
According to the document, the parties agreed to:
- agree on the maximum possible volume of sugar exports based on the preliminary balance of supply and demand in the 2023/2024 marketing year. To make the changes specified in the Annexes to the Memorandum, taking into account the spring sowing and vegetation of plants;
- the maximum volume of sugar exports in the 2023/2024 marketing year will be up to 650 thousand tons.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy may initiate state regulation measures within the framework of the law in case of threats to the food security of the state.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Ukrtsukor will discuss the current situation and determine export volumes on a monthly basis. If the Ministry initiates measures to change the regime of foreign economic activity, introduce licensing and quotas, the parties will hold preliminary consultations.
“Ukrtsukor, for its part, agrees to inform the Ministry about the actual implementation and prospects of sugar exports. Having received a notification from the Ministry about the termination of exports, take the necessary measures to inform the public,” the statement said.
Also, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy will contribute to building up the export potential of sugar and negotiating with the European Union on further duty-free and quota-free sugar exports to the EU.
The Memorandum comes into force from the date of signing and is valid until September 1, 2024.
