Ukraine exported 100 thousand tons of sugar in April
Since the beginning of the 2023/24 season, Ukraine’s sugar exports amounted to 530 thousand tons, which is 70% higher than last year.
According to preliminary customs statistics, Ukrainian sugar exports in April 2024 amounted to 100 thousand tons, which is the largest export figure for one month in recent years (for comparison, in March Ukraine exported 81 thousand tons of sugar, in April 2023 – 46 thousand tons).
During the first seven months of the 2023/24 season, Ukrainian sugar exports amounted to 530 thousand tons, compared to 308 thousand tons in the corresponding period of the previous marketing year.
Most of the Ukrainian sugar is still exported to the EU countries – in April, primarily to Bulgaria and Hungary.
It is expected that in the coming months, Ukrainian sugar exports to the EU will decrease significantly, while Ukrainian companies will continue to export the “sweet” product to Africa and Asia.
According to the current estimates, the total sugar exports from Ukraine in 2023/24 season will amount to 700-800 thousand tons (in 2022/23 season – 427 thousand tons, so currently the export volumes are already significantly higher than in the previous season).
The main exporters of Ukrainian sugar are the three leading producers – Radekhiv-Sugar, Ukrprominvest-Agro and Astarta. Currently, the share of the top 3 in total exports can be estimated at more than 75%.
The largest Ukrainian exporter is Radekhiv-Sugar (in 2023, this company was also the largest Ukrainian sugar producer).
