Ukraine. Development of winter grains is 1-2 weeks behind the long-term average

Weather conditions. Significant temperature swings and precipitation of various intensity on most days between November 1-10.

Moisture supply. Precipitation of various intensity occurred almost all over the country, with its rates ranging from 0.5 mm to 15.9 mm. In the fall pre-plant and planting periods (September to October) the average total amount of precipitation in Ukraine was just 50-70% of normal, even 25-40% of normal in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Rivne, Mykolaiv regions. Due to the precipitation deficit, soil moisture content under winter crops as of the beginning of the cold season was one of the lowest in ten years.

Crop condition. In many areas, the agrometeorological conditions turned out to be critical for initial growth of winter crops. They resulted in delayed germination, uneven emergence of early planted crops, spotted seedlings, and failure to develop nodal roots in plants. Due to the scarcity of soil moisture, the development of winter grains in most fields is one to two weeks behind the long-term average, reports UkrAgroConsult.
