Ukraine calculates losses of grains and oilseeds due to heat

Due to the abnormal heat wave in Ukraine, the harvest of early grain crops will be reduced by 5%, and late crops may lose up to 15%.

This was stated by Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky during a telethon on Monday, July 29.

As for the early grain crops, according to Taras Vysotsky, “atypically high temperatures caused plant stress and cannot go unnoticed.”

The southeastern regions suffered the most. There, yields decreased by 10-15%. In the central and northern regions, the situation is better, so the national average will be around 5%.

At the same time, the impact on the late group of grains – corn, soybeans and sunflower – will be more significant.

“It looks like a preliminary estimate that most regions, not all, will have lower yields. As of today, it looks like it will be 15% lower,” the official said.
