Ukraine and Poland have agreed to resume the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products. It will be launched on the night of April 20-21, 2023.

Additional control measures will be applied to the transit, which will be publicly and routinely communicated to market participants in the near future.

This agreement was also announced by the Minister of Agriculture of Poland Robert Telus. According to him, transit will be controlled. The ban on imports of Ukrainian products to Poland will remain in place, the Minister emphasized.

“We have managed to establish mechanisms that will mean that not a single ton of grain will remain in Poland. The goods will transit through Poland,” the minister said after talks with Ukrainian officials.

Poland has decided to ban imports of grain and other food from Ukraine to protect the local agricultural sector after a supply glut pushed down prices in the region. The ban came into effect on the evening of April 15. Hungary also announced a similar decision.

On April 17, Slovakia announced the suspension of grain imports from Ukraine.

On April 15, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine stated that the Polish ban contradicts bilateral export agreements and called for negotiations to resolve the problem. Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solsky announced talks with his counterparts from Poland, Romania, and Slovakia on the export of Ukrainian agricultural products.

On April 16, the European Commission stated that unilateral actions on trade by EU member states are unacceptable.
