Ukraine: A record rapeseed season left behind. What comes next?

In August UkrAgroConsult revised downward a rapeseed crop forecast due to an adverse weather impact and a lower yield value expected before.

The abolition of the “soybean and rapeseed amendments” benefits oilseed exports. Exporters are beating crushers in domestic competition for rapeseed.

China is a promising market, as agreements were achieved in November 2019 about exporting rapeseed meal to this country, and a relevant protocol was signed.

Steady rapeseed demand from EU countries may be limited by stricter quality requirements to the feedstock along with changes in the EU import structure in favor of Canadian canola.

Traditionally at this time, the size of winter rape plantings for the 2021 harvest becomes an intrigue of the 2021/22 season. The first reports from farmers are currently emerging about the start of fieldwork. While the market factors benefit the interests of farmers, the weather (specifically soil drought) may turn out to be decisive in making the decision on whether to sow or not to sow.
