UkrAgroConsult cutting its estimate of barley exports from Kazakhstan

UkrAgroConsult

Kazakhstan has exported 728 KMT of barley this season. This is 36% lower compared to the same period of last year.

Last season, 91% of barley exports from Kazakhstan went to Iran, but 2020/21 shipments to this country were down 53%. Among major buyers, the following countries strengthened demand – Uzbekistan (+48%), China (up fourfold), Tajikistan (up sixfold).

China is the most promising destination, therefore Kazakhstani exporters are making a lot of efforts to obtain permit documents for export of barley and its products (barley feed flour).

Unfortunately, the export volumes are not very considerable for now – they peaked in November 2020, when 41 KMT was shipped to China. In the recent months, exports to China have fallen to 4-6 KMT a month. According to trade sources, China is now interested rather in new-crop grain, UkrAgroConsult reports.

The traditional buyers usually reduce purchases of Kazakhstani barley in the latter half of the season due to the beginning of own harvest (Iran). Therefore, UkrAgroConsult cuts its estimate of this season’s barley exports from Kazakhstan.
