Tusk proposes to completely ban imports of Russian and Belarusian products to the EU
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has proposed a complete ban on imports of Russian and Belarusian products to the EU.
“Today, I will address the Speaker of the Sejm with a proposal for a resolution of the Polish Sejm that would call on the European Commission to impose full sanctions on Russian and Belarusian agricultural and food products,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, according to RMF24.
He noted that a joint European decision would be more effective than individual decisions by countries. Such sanctions, he said, are necessary for “more effective protection of the European, Lithuanian, Polish agricultural and food markets.”
Tusk also noted that one of the main tasks now is to fully unblock Ukraine’s export opportunities for agricultural and food products to third countries.
“Together we need to find a solution that will effectively protect the Polish and European markets from unequal competition,” the Polish Prime Minister said.
Donald Tusk said that in the coming days he would launch an initiative to revise the Green Deal, which will be aimed at protecting the European food market.
“We will find a way to ensure that the provisions of the Green Deal do not harm the interests of large groups of people, not just farmers,” the Polish Prime Minister said.
