Turkish MoD announces Ukraine grain deal extension negotiations
On 10-11 May, Istanbul will host bilateral and multilateral meetings held by representatives of Ukraine, the UN and russia.
The Ministry of National Defence of Türkiye announced that the extension of the grain deal will be one of the issues discussed.
russia claims that the deal expires on 18 May even though it contradicts the agreement signed in Türkiye on 22 July 2022.
“A detailed and safe evacuation plan will be discussed to bring back our commercial vessels and crews stranded in Ukrainian ports as a result of the conflict,” the MoD says in a statement.
Türkiye, russia, Ukraine and the UN failed to reach an agreement on new grain export ships during talks on Friday, 5 May. Ankara is working to extend the agreement, which expires on 18 May. The meeting on 5 May was technical, with a session of deputy ministers to be held this week.
