After talks in Sochi with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara would prepare new proposals with the UN to renew the agreement on grain exports from Ukraine.

“I shared with Putin that we are ready to hold consultations. We will prepare a new package of proposals in consultation with the UN. I believe that we can achieve a result. I believe that a solution will be reached in the near future,” he said during a press conference following the talks with the Russian side.

However, as expected, there is no talk of resuming the grain deal.

The talks in Sochi between Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin ended after three hours, Russian state news agency TASS reported. Putin’s spokesman called the first part of the talks, which took place in an expanded format, “constructive.” Then the leaders of Russia and Turkey continued their meeting one-on-one.

As a reminder, Turkey is trying to restore the signed agreement that allowed the safe passage of grain from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports.
