The Ministry of Economy of Turkey is negotiating the possibility of imposing a ban on wheat imports. It is reported by Atria Brokers.

The ban is planned to be introduced for the period from June 1 to September 1, 2023. The reason for this decision is to protect local wheat producers during the harvest.

The decision is expected around May 14, the day of the presidential election.

As a reminder, starting May 1, 2023, Turkey imposed a 130% duty on imports of key grains. The majority of Ukrainian grain is not affected by this duty, as Ukraine imports products to Turkey mainly for sale to third countries and is not subject to the duty.
