Transit through Poland accounts for only 5% of Ukrainian agricultural exports
Exports of agricultural products from Ukraine in January 2024 were mainly due to sea transportation and amounted to 6.7 million tons. At the same time, 0.37 million tons (about 5% of the total) transited through Poland, although in 2022 agricultural exports to this country reached 1 million tons per month.
This was announced on TV by Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
He noted that this shows that the statements of Polish agricultural associations about the oversaturation of their market are unfair.
“For its part, Ukraine is doing everything possible to minimize any possible economic losses of Polish farmers. We believe that the blockade is definitely playing into Russia’s hands, and it is already using it to show that we are not doing well with our friendly Poland,” said Kubrakov.
According to him, the dialog is ongoing at all levels.
The day before, the minister held urgent talks with the head of the National Security Bureau of Poland, Jacek Siewera, on the inadmissibility of blocking the border, including passenger transport.
“Blocking the border is a direct threat to the security of the country under defense. Such actions negatively affect our confrontation with the common enemy called Russia… We expect concrete actions from our Polish colleagues to prevent such situations and resolve the problem in general,” emphasized Kubrakov.
