There will be no shortage of grains and borscht vegetables in Ukraine

This spring, farmers are planning to increase their plantings of spring crops, as well as onions, carrots and buckwheat. Therefore, there will be no shortage of grain crops on the domestic market. This will facilitate the availability of domestic products for Ukrainian consumers.

These forecasts were made by Taras Vysotsky, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, on the air of the “Yedyni Novyny” (United News) marathon.

According to him, farmers from Odesa, Central and Western Ukraine are resuming growing vegetables, primarily onions and carrots.

“This year, the situation with onions and carrots on the market will be stable compared to last year. The products will be more affordable for the Ukrainian consumer,” says Taras Vysotskyi.

According to him, it is planned to sow more non-export-oriented crops: buckwheat, oats and millet.

“In 2022, farmers significantly increased the volume of buckwheat sowing. Therefore, today its price is 50% lower than last year. Almost the same sowing area is expected this year. This means that we will produce more buckwheat than we need for domestic consumption. This will reduce the need for imports, and there will be no reason for the price to rise. Even a reduction in price is possible, but this will become clear after the planted areas are fixed in June,” said the First Deputy Minister.

Taras Vysotsky also emphasized that even in difficult military conditions, the volume of grain production will exceed the needs of Ukrainians by at least two and a half times. There will be enough wheat to produce bakery products, and corn and barley for feed.
