The world knows what a fundamental role our maritime grain exports play for food security, – Zelenskyy
Yesterday, during a working visit to Odesa, the President of Ukraine and Supreme Commander-in-Chief held a meeting of the Chiefs of Staff. Special attention was paid to the grain corridor and security in the Black Sea.
“The world knows what a fundamental role our maritime grain exports play for food security. And in general, security in the Black Sea, the effectiveness of international law on navigation is a globally important security factor. All the maritime countries of the world now see what can threaten their ports and their waters if Russia gets away with blocking navigation in the Black Sea,” the President said.
He reminded that out of the three ports agreed upon within the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the port of Pivdennyi is actually blocked.
“More than one and a half million tons of agricultural products have been accumulated in Pivdennyi alone. And this is grain that is expected by at least ten countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Bangladesh, and China. It is obvious: the less food is supplied to these countries, to these regions, the higher the food prices are, the more people in these countries lose from their family budgets,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
He added that the blockade of one port in Ukraine creates extremely serious risks for different nations, including those with whom Russia is also trying to speculate.
