The United Nations will do everything it can to preserve the integrity of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, an agreement agreed between Ukraine and Russia last July that expires in a few days.

This is stated in the message of the UN following the negotiations with the Russian delegation in Geneva, after which the Russian side announced the extension of the agreement for 60 days.

“The UN Secretary General has confirmed that the organization will do everything possible to preserve the integrity of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and ensure its continuity,” the message reads.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the organization “remains fully committed to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, as well as efforts to promote the export of Russian food products and fertilizers.”

The UN said that they “took note” of the statement on Russia’s extension of the Black Sea grain initiative for 60 days.

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov wrote on Twitter that the “grain agreement” provides for at least 120 days of extension, and therefore Russia’s position on 60 days “contradicts the document signed by Turkey and the UN.”

Kubrakov added that Ukraine is waiting for the official position of the UN and Turkey as guarantors of the initiative.
